In the backyard. (Berkeley, CA)I met this little creature for the first time the other day when it growled at me while I was picking some lettuce. I was startled, and a bit scared – but I think we're both less frightened and more interested in each other now. The raccoon is making a curiosity-sniffing face in this photo. (This is the first in a series of neighbour posts.)

raccooooon! they can be sneakeh. mind your garbage! he will not menace you personally though, don't worry. they are not so aggressive, unless they have an illness, but if he's just been sniffing curiously thus far, you should be okay.
